What causes low water pressure from the faucet?

2026-07-21

When the water flow from the faucet becomes smaller and the water pressure is insufficient, it is mostly due to the accumulation of scale, which causes blockage. You can check it yourself following a simple sequence.

The most common problem is the accumulation of scale on the bubbler at the water outlet. The mud and sand in the water block the small holes, and simply unscrewing the filter screen and rinsing it can quickly restore the water flow. Secondly, check if the inlet angle valve is fully open. A partially open state will continuously limit the water pressure. Old and stuck angle valves should be replaced directly.

If the hose is twisted and flattened, or if a fine-sized inlet pipe is used, it will compress the waterway, resulting in weak water flow. In high-rise buildings or during peak water usage times (morning and evening), the overall water pressure of the municipal water supply decreases, and all faucets in the house will have a reduced water flow. In this case, installing a booster pump is the most effective solution.

In addition, clogged pre-filter filter elements, accumulated scale inside the faucet, and the built-in water-saving and flow-limiting pad of the shower head will all reduce the water pressure. If the water pressure of a single faucet is low, the problem is mainly with the accessories of that faucet; if the water pressure throughout the house is weak, the first step is to check the main valve at the entrance and the water supply pipes. Regularly cleaning the filter screen and filter element on a daily basis can help maintain stable water pressure for a long time.
